At daybreak this fishing vessel pulled out of the dock at Venice, Florida and headed to the open ocean in search of the 'one that got away'. Tools of the trade are positioned off the back of the boat. Reels at rest; for now. This painting was done from the reference photo one of the fishermen snapped as they headed out for the day's adventure. Grouper was the name of the game this day.
Painting is a journey for me as is seeking a subject with my camera. Each blank canvas is a call to adventure. With the stroke of a brush, I embark upon a quest of self-discovery. It places me on the edge of being someone other than myself, being some place new and exciting, and often the journey leads me to places of profound inner peace. The composition, colors, texture, lighting � they all have impact on me, but when I paint and photograph, it�s so much more than just a visual experience. At some point I become lost in the moment.
