Description
A view from the corner of Market and State streets inspired this oil painting of the historic Pennsylvania State Capitol, located in Harrisburg, PA. Designed in the American Renaissance style by Philadelphia architect Joseph Huston envisioned the building as a "Palace of art". The building features paintings, stained glass and furnishings by some of the best artisans of the day. The Capitol's centerpiece is a spectacular 272 foot, 52 million-pound dome inspired by Michelangelo's design for St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. I strongly suggest to visitors, when in the Harrisburg area, touring the Capitol is well worth the time. It is truly a treasure. The original painting was done on a 10x10 wood product.
