This barn was once part of a thriving Chestnut tree farm in Irish Valley, Pennsylvania. It was owned and operated by the Soder family. Coleman K. Sober, 1842-1921, worked his first 18 years on the family homestead in Northumberland County, north of Harrisburg. In 1903 the grove covered 300 acres, growing 75,000 Paragon. In the early 1900s, he chestnut blight was a ruination. Today the lone remnant of a palatial homestead is the weatherboard gray chestnut barn.
Painting is a journey for me as is seeking a subject with my camera. Each blank canvas is a call to adventure. With the stroke of a brush, I embark upon a quest of self-discovery. It places me on the edge of being someone other than myself, being some place new and exciting, and often the journey leads me to places of profound inner peace. The composition, colors, texture, lighting � they all have impact on me, but when I paint and photograph, it�s so much more than just a visual experience. At some point I become lost in the moment.
